The column consisted of therapeutic stories as well as letters from her readers. Shortly after 9/11, Dr. Barbara was interviewed by CBS News as an expert in hypnosis for "Hypnosis for the Fear of Flying," which aired several times on national television. Dr. Freedman was the recipient of the Clark Vincent Award for the year 2000 for Excellence in Writing that Promotes the Field of Marriage and Family Therapy.
Dr. Barbara specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy, which is based on the theory that how one thinks largely determines how one feels and behaves. The behavior is then modified. In other words, change the thinking, change the behavior. Therapy is collaborative, problem-solving, and solution-focused. Dr. Freedman also enjoys using hypnosis and hypnotherapy to further solidify positive change and to ensure that this change is long-lasting.
Dr. Freedman has presented workshops for the Milton Erickson Foundation, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Southern California Society for Clinical Hypnosis, the California Association of Medical Staff Services (keynote speaker), and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, to name a few.
